Rauw Alejandro

In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track during the course of 6 months. This blend of reggaeton and pop music didn't just bring attention back to the music genre but also Latin music generally. In 2015, there were only two predominantly Spanish-language songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In 2017, during the height of Despacito's popularity, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish were included in the Billboard Top 100. by 2020 it will be 41 tracks in this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, many popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny have collaborated to record MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma collaborated on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with its direction towards mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. He often used elements of electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
