Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Her family was in Barcelona and has been called an "atypical pop star" due to her various musical styles. When she was enthralled by Spanish folk music when she was 13years old, she pursued a degree in musicology at Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She finished her studies with distinction, thanks to her cover album that she co-produced together with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). It reinvented flamenco, combining it with pop and hip-hop music. The songs "Malamente", and "Pienso in tu Mira" have been a huge hit with the Spanish populace and won all-encompassing critical acclaim. El Mal Querer was the first artist to bring Rosalia on the international music scene. Rosalia is a musician who explored urbano music with her albums of 2019 "Con Altura", and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", had global success. She gave reggaeton an experimental approach to her third album Motomami (2022) that departed from the new flamenco sound of the album that preceded it. It featured two singles "La Fama,"" and "Saoko", the album received a worldwide acclaim and was named the best-reviewed album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one singles in her native country over her entire career. This is the most she has ever achieved for an artist from the country. She has also won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins) as well as four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other awards. Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the sound of mainstream music with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18[18]. She was also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated for the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children of Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking business. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They split in 2019. [23] She has an older sibling, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) who is working alongside Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia was attracted to performing arts from her early years. She discovered the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical training at the Taller de Musics [es]. 24 She completed an eight-year program in the academy. She was a student at the Raval School and was later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. [25] She also autonomously worked as an independent singer at weddings and musical bars, for which she was paid "a just over 80 euros or in exchange for dinner". At that time, Rosalia met many underground Spanish musicians who later would be successful, including La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento
